Sony PS4 DualShock Controller 4

Sony has unveiled the next generation Play Station codenamed PS4. PS4 will run on 8 core x86-64 CPU which will use AMD Jaguar cores. The device is packed with 8GB RAM and a high end GPU which will be capable of delivering 1.84 TFLOPS of performance.

PS4 comes with 6xCAV Blu-ray support. It also has an Ethernet port, HDMI port, USB 3.0 slots, Wi-fi, Analog AV Out and Digital Output. The device comes with DualShock Controller 4. The new controller has additional 6 sensitive axis and a single options button for start and select. An additional LED has been added which will change the color according to the character selected. The controller also has a share button via which users can share the audio or video of their game via social networking sites like UStream or Facebook.

Now with the PS4, users can start playing the games immediately after the base data of the game has been downloaded. The rest of the data will continue to get downloaded in the background. Sony will release a Playstation app for iOS and Android phones from where users can browse the store for games and do more stuff. But its not known whether it will support off screen play.

Sony PS4 is capable of delivering 4K output but not for games. It will also come with an accessory named PlayStation Eye which will have four microphones and two 1280×800 cameras with a 85 degree field view. It will provide facial recognition, player positioning, depth sensing, etc.

The cost and the launch date is not yet known. However its expected to be priced at $400 and it may launch in Christmas 2013. We have many events coming up like the E3 conference, etc and Sony will have to make some news about PS4 to keep users engaged. Now we need to see what Microsoft has to offer us with the next generation Xbox.
